- who may be related to who, which will assist in family research
- what challenges the community and families encountered
- growth of the township and documentation of new houses, barns, well drilled, field tile installed, etc.
- reporting of weather and crop status which was the lifeblood of the community

Early Settlement
Pioneers. Farmhouses. Barns. Farming and Agriculture. Churches. Schools. Businesses.
1. This Somers, Wisconsin pioneer history "blog" is an interactive web site created and managed by me, Jacqueline Klapproth Nelson, a resident whose great grandfather settled in Somers Township in 1905. With my husband Tom, I live on the Klapproth homestead today. Email Jackie at somershistory@wi.rr.com2. This is a free and easy resource where you will learn about the lives of Somers early pioneers, enjoy photographs and vintage historical maps, and much more. We can give no greater respect to our earliest settlers than to preserve their story and make this information accessible to everyone.
3. There are many good history books in the library about Kenosha County. I see no point in repeating general information, graphs, charts and other statistical data.
4. These blogs should not be considered a complete history of everybody and everything. It is a work in progress where the focus is on early settlement.
5. Those of you researching family history should be aware that federal and state census reports, biographical sketches, newspapers, family bibles, and cemetery records will probably have slight variation on spelling of names, birth dates, dates of death, and other information. These variations or inconsistencies are common.
6. The information on this blog is in order by the date it was published and posted. On the right margin is column titled "Labels", an alphabetical search tool, which may be helpful to you.
7. The purpose of my blogs are to provide interesting (at least to me) tid bits about Somers that you probably won't find anywhere else in a single collection. They are meant to be a learning tool, entertaining reading, a way to preserve photographs, and a family history resource. Oh, and by the way, I must make a disclaimer that I am not perfect and my typing is not perfect, but my heart is in the right place and I do my utmost best to do a great job on this blog!
